Kaliyama receives laser therapy on her lumbar and hips.

Patient

Kaliyama, Feline – Domestic Short Hair, 20 years old, Female, 5 lbs

Problem

Kaliyama suffers from degenerative joint disease/arthritis.  She has difficulty walking and appears to be uncomfortable when trying to lay down.  She is on Cosequin daily and oral pain medication as needed.

The "Science"

Laser energy induces photobiomodulation in arthritic tissue, decreases pain and swelling, increases circulation and decreases tissue inflammation which leads to improved mobility and patient comfort.

Results

Kaliyama’s owner noted that after the first three laser therapy treatments, her mobility was significantly improved.  After six treatments, she noticed Kaliyama was having less trouble lying down and getting back up.  After twelve treatments, Kaliyama's owner reported that she was moving about more easily, was more active in general and was able to lie down with less pain and effort than before laser therapy began.  Kaliyama's owner felt that her quality of life changed for the better by integrating laser therapy into Kaliyama's overall treatment plan.

Wiley Boon happily receives laser therapy for degenerative joint disease.

Wiley Boon, Canine – Labrador Retriever, 9 years old, Female, 105 lbs

Problem

Wiley Boon suffers from degenerative joint disease in her carpi (forelegs).  She has stiffness upon rising and after exercise.  She sometimes holds her front leg up, appearing to be uncomfortable.  Wiley Boon takes daily joint supplements.

The "Science"

Laser energy induces photobiomodulation in tissue, decreases pain and swelling, increases circulation and decreases tissue inflammation which leads to improved mobility and patient comfort.

Results

After six laser therapy treatments, Wiley Boon's owner reported a marked improvement in Wiley's recovery time after exercise.  Prior to laser therapy, it would take a couple days to fully recover from an exercise session with her sibling, Uma.  During the days after hard exercise, she would limp and hold her front leg up.  Since receiving laser therapy, her recovery interval has been much shorter.  Wiley typically limped after a lap or two around the yard but that has dramatically decreased.  Her dogwalker has also noted that she limps much less frequently than before starting laser treatment.  After evaluating these positive results, Wiley moved into a maintenance phase of laser therapy.  Wiley's owner is very pleased with the effects she is experiencing from laser therapy.
