National Veterinary Technician Week

Veterinary technicians are critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practices and play vital roles in preserving animal health and welfare. National Veterinary Technician Week, first celebrated in 1993, takes place in the third week of October each year.  This special week gives us the opportunity to recognize  and highlight the incredible work that our veterinary support staff does every day of the year.

It takes all members of our veterinary support staff from veterinary nurses to certified veterinary technicians to veterinary assistants to make our hospital run smoothly.  We thank our support staff for the compassionate work they do and for helping Trooper Vet to provide exceptional care to our patients!

We couldn't do it without all of you!

We want to wish a special "Happy Anniversary" to Lisa. Lisa has been a dedicated and compassionate caretaker here at Trooper Veterinary Hospital for 25 years! Wow! Lisa absolutely loves all of our patients but she definitely has a soft spot for kitties and senior pets (and even has a few of her own)!

Thank you for all you have done for Trooper's patients, Lisa…we wish you many more happy years here!

Meet Us Monday – Staff Spotlight

TVH Vet Tech Ann

Welcome to our second installment of "Meet Us Monday".  You see our faces when you bring your pets in for medical treatment or lodging, but do you really know us?  Do you know what song we would sing at Karaoke if given the choice?  Do you know what we things we consider ourselves to be supremely terrible at doing?  If we could travel anywhere in the world, where would we go?  The answers to these questions and more can be found right here in our BLOG every Monday!!

Today in "Meet Us Monday", please meet staff member Ann, one of our fantastic Veterinary Assistants!

MEET ANN

Job at TVH:  Veterinary Assistant

Time at TVH: 4 months

If you could vacation anywhere you want, where would you go? Australia

What is your favorite book? My favorite author is Terry Pratchett; his "Discworld" series is among my favorite books.

Favorite movie? No contest: Jurassic Park.

Favorite item of clothing? Lounge pants!

What are your hobbies outside of work? I write. I have been published in an anthology of short stories and poems.

How many members in your pet family? One dog…his name is Toby and he is fourteen. I just adopted a handsome rat named D'Artagnan from the SPCA and then adopted him an albino baby brother named Fisk!

What led you to work in the veterinary field? I knew I wanted to work with animals or be in the biology field. I had the best biology teacher ever which led me to major in Wildlife Conservation. I wanted to work with exotics and long story short, here is where I ended up.

What is your favorite thing about working at Trooper Vet? I like the techniques that I am learning. I get to "baby sit" pets since I am a live-in at the hospital.

If you sang at karaoke night, what song would you sing? I have actually thought about this question before! "I Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley would be my first choice. That is a song I feel like I could do really well.

What radio station is on in your car right now? 104.5…but I surf. I can't listen to commercials. I listen to everything from classic to rap.

Coffee or tea? Tea.

If money was no object, what would you do all day? I would have an extreme video game set up and play all day! I am a pretty hardcore gamer, so much so that none of my friends want to play with me.

What is one of your biggest pet peeves? When people complain about things they can change.

How would your friends describe you? Easy going.

Strangest thing you have ever eaten? Bull testicles! I give them five thumb's down.

Give me one thing you will never do again. Eat bull testicles. smiley

Bungee jump, parachute from a plane, or hang glide? All of the above!

Do you collect anything? Interestingly-shaped glass bottles…although I have zero in my collection at the moment (thanks for throwing them out, Mom.)

Be sure to check back next week for our next edition of "Meet Us Monday"!

Our first "Meet Us Monday" staff spotlight is Gerry, pictured here with her dog, Bo.

Dog Blood Drive!

TROOPER VETERINARY HOSPITAL is proud to host University of Pennsylvania Penn Animal Blood Bank

Held right here at Trooper Vet in Norristown on December 14th 9AM-1PM 4 to 5

Penn Animal Blood Bank is looking for volunteers for their blood donor program. The program looks to companion dogs to help save the lives of other companion dogs. Many dogs need blood to survive when they are suffering from anemia, blood disorders, rat poison ingestion and some emergency surgeries.

You may be able to help if your dog is:

•Good tempered and a willing volunteer

•Over 55 lbs.

•Between 1 and 7 years old

•Up to date on vaccines

•In excellent health

•Not taking any medication other than heartworm & flea protection

In appreciation, your dog receives a free bag or case of food. Once a dog donates, it becomes a lifetime member of the Penn Animal Blood Bank. If ever in need of a transfusion, blood is guaranteed to be available to donors, free of charge.

The Bloodmobile will be located here in our parking lot, and we are now taking appointments. Please call us to talk to our blood drive coordinator, Karen.

Congratulations to the following HERO DOGS who have joined the “Gallon Club”!
Dogs donate about one pint each time, and these dogs have each donated one gallon or MORE!!

  • Boulder Drochek
  • Romeo Bucci-Hartman
  • Rocky Price
  • Jake Smith
  • Chopper Engler
  • Sage Goldacker
